Bishops, Priests, State Members, and Ladies
I would like to thank all those who have worked hard to get their councils active again and prayers to those who are still having trouble restarting. With all the things from wars to hurricanes to all the disruptions in our lives, it is hard to find the right amount of energy to apply to each activity.
I encourage you to meet with your council members and just do one activity that will get you going again. Many councils have not reported an activity yet this year. Activity is the secret to all things that are troubling, not only our parishes and family life but also our faith and relationship to God.
This month, in the Gospel of Luke 6:43-49, Jesus was talking with his Disciples: A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. He also talked about the one who listens, and does not act, is like a person who built his house on ground without foundation. When the river burst against it, it collapsed at once and was destroyed. This reminds me every time that I must act. I must act as Jesus would. I must flip the script of being self-centered and self-destructive, I must turn to the truths and to the sacraments of our faith. That is where true strength and foundation come from to help me act with Charity toward those that are pushed to the periphery of our town and society.
My looking toward what helps me be energized about the Knights of Columbus and what continues to do well, is to look where we can help someone else have a better day. It helps me to have one as well. Even at the time of writing this to you today, I am confident that the Knights are already on the ground behind the destruction of Hurricane Ian and finding ways to help those who are now the most in need. Each day that goes by, we help people rebuild their lives by thinking-- what if the shoe was on the other foot? I would want people to help me through those same very tough times.
Act now in ways you can: donate, do a fundraiser, and gather things needed to help those in need.
Our coming together on mission is our greatest strength, encourage those around you to join us, through action and love and commitment to those in need.
Please invite your parish to the next Benefits Night on October 26th at 7pm. We will be discussing with our guest, Dan Purtell, estate planning, Wills, and long-term care as part of your family’s future.
Vivat Jesus
